Cranach-Triegel altar in Rome

Since November 2, 2025, the Cranach-Triegel altar from Naumburg Cathedral has been in the chapel of the Campo Santo Teutonico in the Vatican, where it will be on display for two years. After ICOMOS threatened to withdraw the World Heritage title from Naumburg Cathedral, the altar had to be removed from the west choir. The two-year exile is now intended to cool down the explosive situation and give those involved the opportunity to find a good solution.
